About US
We live in a world full of digital noise, an endless stream of signals that vie for the rarest thing we possess — our attention.
The algorithms that power this phenomenon are engineered intentionally to create personalized virtual realities for each viewer, echo chambers that reinforce one’s existing view point of the world.
Isolation is not the only negative side effect of journeying across this digital landscape. As we scroll the endless feeds, our brains are tricked into believing that we are actually participating in all of the experiences we see: a beautiful sunset, an enthralling sporting event, a meaningful conversation. In fact we are not, we are simply anonymous observers, and in the end, we are left disconnected and dissatisfied.
The toll of this experience on both our individual and collective mental faculties is tangibly felt by all of us. We are lonely, anxious, bored, and isolated.
The antidote to this troubling trend is intentional engagement with the real world. When we interact with the physical spaces we inhabit, we reconnect with what makes us essentially human — the exercise of freedom, where freedom is the expression of agency within the constraints of the world that exists outside of our minds.
Overlander was born as a response to a question — Can technology increase human agency and engagement in the real world, rather than disconnect and isolate us in an increasingly manufactured virtual reality.
We believe that in a world of metal and dirt, wind and rain, and the horizon ever in front of you, you can rediscover what it means to be human. We believe that meaning is found in movement.
